Is it wrong to celebrate this holiday under these cirstances?

My husband had an exgirlfriend who ped away in a car accident on Valentine's Day 7 years ago. Since her death I never suggested doing anything romantic or extravagant that day because it is the anniversary of her death. He always felt very sad. They had broken up 2 months prior, and the day before her accident they called a truce, and even though they were not getting back together, they became friends. Valentine's day has been sort of a non holiday for us for the past 7 years. He gives me a card, and flowers usually a week before Valentine's Day. I've been okay with this, but now we are starting to raise a family, and I would like to celebrate the holiday on the actual day. Am I being selfish or wrong to want that after 8 years of avoiding this holiday? He says its okay, but am I being selfish in wanting this. I'm thinking about our kids, more than for myself. I'd like to do something special on that day for them too. Is it wrong to celebrate a holiday that has a tragic past attached to it?
