Kitten doesn't like dog, what should I do?

My sister, who lives out of the house recently got a kitten. We, my family, has a white west highland terrier. My sister visits a lot and since the kitten is small enough (and who doesn't like a kitten?) she brings her too. Due to this we decided to introduce the two (before the kitten stayed in my sister's old room) but something odd happened. We were afraid our dog would dislike the kitten but its the other way around. Our dog is interested in the kitten (maybe a little too much!) but the kitten is horrified of the dog and hisses and hides.While I think she might grow to like the dog I am worried she might be traumatized by us making her be with something 3x the size of her. Any thoughts?
