Why do people in western society so readily embrace a consumerist culture?

and think it matters? Are they deluded? surely they must be, as no sane person would think that a culture of consumption is worth anything. They are conditioned to wage slavery from an early age and embrace materialism as a child where they watch advertisements manipulating demand and wanting it all. A culture that is devoted to BUYING, that is essentially what our pathetic culture is. We want NOTHING important expect a desire to CONSUME and become WAGE SLAVES desiring nothing and doing trivial activities not thinking about what can CHANGE the world, but thinking soley of what superficial activity or thing they want. HOW DOES THIS MATTER? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH US
