How can I get over my fear of approaching young women?

I am 21, and I cannot get myself to approach girls my age? I ume they are going to be hostile towards me and never go out with me. I feel like I am not any 18-22 year-old girls type, because I look more like an immigrant than an american (because of my mixed white/sioux indian background), I don't dress like a thug or frat boy and people always tell me I seem more intelligent than most people. Is there anything I could say that would convince them to accept me the way I am?
