Why is the catholic church more concerned with sacrifives and penance than giving thanks to the Lord?

for His mercy and goodness, and the gift of His Son Christ Jesus, who with His sacrifice of offering Himself for the forgiveness of sins. Should we not rejoice and give thanks?
