Should Pneumonia clear up spot with antibiotics?

A spot was found on left lung. Dr. said probably pneumonia and put on antibiotics. Should this clear it up and if not what would be next step and could it be cancer. Cancer rampant on my dads side of family. He ped from lung cancer.
